3. Seal up the Instant Pot. Press the manual button and set for 5 minutes. Once time runs out, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release for at least 10 minutes, then quick release the rest of the pressure. (If you leave the IP to natural release until it’s done, that’s totally fine, too.)

4. Once pressure is released, use immersion blender to pulse cooked apples into applesauce. Only blend until it’s at the desired consistency; don’t over mix if you like applesauce chunky!

5. Once cooled, store applesauce in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can also can applesauce or freeze it until ready to eat!

How to use applesauce

  • Oil Replacement– I love to use applesauce as a replacement for some oil in baked goods. I use this in my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins, and they’re super moist as a result!
  • Hot Breakfast– Growing up, my mom would warm up applesauce in the microwave, sprinkle with cinnamon, and serve it up for breakfast. It was a huge hit!
  • Pork Side– Apples are a natural side to go along with pork, so use your instant pot applesauce alongside pork chops or pork tenderloin.

Homemade applesauce FAQ’s

  1. Can applesauce be frozen? Absolutely! Simply fill up a freezer safe container with applesauce, leaving a bit of room at the top for expansion. Place in the freezer until ready to use!
  2. Are gala apples good for applesauce? Yes! Galas in particular are a sweet variety of apples used for cider, so that makes them perfect for applesauce as well.
  3. What are the best apples for applesauce? Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Golden Delicious are some of the popular varieties used for homemade apple sauce. I personally will also use others if I’m trying to use up my apples.
  4. Can applesauce be overcooked? In fact, yes! Apples can begin to lose their flavor if overcooked, that’s why I keep the time to only five minutes in the Instant Pot.

I hope this easy Instant Pot Apple Sauce recipe inspires you to make your own!
