Easy Instant Pot Apple Butter

Sharing is caring!

There isn’t a taste that quite embodies the spirit of fall quite like apple butter. This delicious spread, made from fresh apples and spices, can easily be made in the Instant Pot. Fresh apple butter is easy to make and also serves as a wonderful and tasty gift.

Why make homemade apple butter?

Making apple butter at home is a great way to use up an abundance of fresh apples whether from a local orchard or a great sale at the grocery store. And if you have a picky crew who won’t eat bruised apples, then making this easy apple butter recipe will give you a way to use them.

Apple butter is a delicious spread that is perfect on just about any kind of bread. It’s also delicious on waffles, muffins, or on top of a big bowl of oatmeal. My kids will also eat it straight from the jar, so that’s clearly an option.

Instant Pot Apple Butter Recipe

  1. Begin by washing apples, quartering them, and removing the core. Everyone has a different method for this, so use an apple slicer, a knife, or whatever your heart desires.
  2. Place cored and quartered apples in the Instant Pot (I love my 6 qt Instant Pot Duo, and it’s almost 5 years old!) along with water, sugar, and spices. Stir to coat apples with spices.

3. Set IP to Manual for 12 minutes. Allow the IP to release pressure naturally when cycle is through.

Blending apple butter in Instant Pot

6. (Optional) After blending, if your apple butter seems thinner than you would like, set Instant Pot to saute and cook the apple butter to draw out more moisture.

7. Spoon fresh apple butter in clean jars and store in fridge or process for canning.

8. To can, process glass jars in a hot water bath for 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack, and store in pantry.

How to Store Instant Pot Apple Butter

There are several options for storing your homemade apple butter!

  • Pantry– If you opt to process (can) your homemade apple butter, then it can be stored in the pantry for up to two years. (If you ever have questions about whether something can be canned or how long it will store, check out the National Center for Home Food Preservation.)
  • Refrigerator– Store apple butter in a closed container in the fridge for up to three months.
  • Freezer– Not up to canning, but want a supply of apple butter for later? Freeze homemade apple butter in freezer safe containers for up to a year.
